Writing In The Rain

Winter wonderland - northern Ontario views.

Northern Ontario, Cottage Country, has been a winter wonderland this year with multiple large snowfalls 12-20 inches at a time. But the snow if finally moving out - and today, although not sunny, held it’s own beauty if you knew where to look.

It rained steady.

Beautiful though, as every drop of rain melts the snow on the ground, the ice on the lake. Every drop brings us closer to spring and the beginning of the gardens here.

When plenty of rain had fallen, and inches of water sat on the remaining shell of ice that covers the lake - just then, the wind picked up. When it did, it caused ripples across the lake that gave each of us a glimpse of the waves to be.

Warm, gentle waves that lap upon the shore just a few feet from my writing window, bedroom windows, dining room windows.

Waves to fall asleep to. Waves to wake up to.

The sight of the lake and the sounds of the water pounding on the roof of the lake house gave inspiration to the day. A reminder to return to my writing. To pour my own heart out into the healing that is found with word share.

Writing by that lake side window consumed my day and energized my soul. Having finished a chapter, even emotionally spent, my physical self felt renewed.

Made me wonder if other writers have lived here. Or if other writers will ever rent the lake house to begin, fully author, or finish the books inside them. This certainly is the proverbial location for an author!

I know one author has lived right next door. Grew up next door in fact. Four of his books have now been published and I understand there may be more in the wings. Dr. Brad Burke (find Brad Burke and his books here) wrote his books at the lake house next door.

In fact I have a copy of each sitting on my shelf.

Perhaps that is how I shall spend the remainder of my ‘word day in the rain’ - reading.
